Towards a greener, electric future!

The Indian EV ecosystem is currently in the initial stages of development but has been gaining traction. In 2021,  330,00 units of EVs were registered in India, clocking a growth of 168 per cent as compared to 2020. This surge in sales was led by 2- and 3-wheelers, which accounted for 48 per cent and 47 per cent of the overall sales, respectively, followed by passenger vehicles at 4 per cent. 

India set yet another record this June. We witnessed the highest-ever half-year sales volume of electric vehicles with nearly 4 lakh vehicles sold across all categories in 6 months. According to vahan dashboard, India clocked 333% YoY growth in EV sales in the same period last year. Despite the low EV share in total Vehicle registration (only 5%), the trends firmly indicate that EV revolution is firmly underway.

Many challenges await the EV industry to realize its full market potential. None more pressing than the immediate need for a robust EV supply chain. There exists a clear gap within the existing ecosystem of traditional auto component manufacturers to address the novel demand coming from EV sector. We feel traditional non-auto electrical and electronics component manufacturers have a much crucial role to play here to ensure the country’s EV growth plans get the right support.
